Last weekend, we encountered our very first study time with Josh. The teacher told me that there was a school work that Josh need to do for the weekend. I thought “Ok bah si Josh ni..mau saja dia buat coz he memang likes to draw.” but who knows that weekend turned into night mares! He refused and give us 101 reasons for not doing it.
“Mommy, Josh don’t know!”
“Mommy, Josh tired!”
“Mommy, papa show my Josh.”
“Papa, mommy show my Josh.”
“Mommy, malaslah!” etc etc etc..
Now I know how difficult it is to get your child to do their “homework”! You will do anything, yes, anything just to get them to do their homework (school work). You praise, you beg, you threatened, you scold and even up to getting the long stick by your side (in case you need it) *sigh* Punya sengsara I tell you.
I remembered those days when my brother lost his temper when his son refused to do the school homework. My brother ended up beating my nephew. I really pity him that time and I tell myself that I will NOT lost my temper when it’s my time..but….aiyooh! say easy lah but doing it??? sendiri saja lah tau!
Then, last night, I asked Josh to do some simple exercise (writing the abc by connecting the dots) and guess what? He enjoyed it so much that he ended up doing two pages. I also hairan, why it was so difficult asking him to his Chinese character homework compare to this? Hmm, maybe last night Josh was in the mood of learning
And as usual, since I am a newbie in this area, really appreciate if you can share how you all tackle this problem. Really appreciate it

haha…i beat Jo a lot too….he used to give me ton of reasons for not doing his homework, but he is ok now, at least willing to take his initiative.
Maybe Chinese is a new language for him, guessed he would get better tracing the Chinese words once he familiars Chinese. Don’t worry, his kindy has lot of Chinese, he will able to catch up this language soon.

I guess it’s because chinese characters look strange and hard to him, since he is probably not exposed to them until he started school.
So far, Eu hasn’t given us much problem when it comes to homework although in the beginning, I have to sit by her as she does her work as the moment my back is turned, she will be scribbling and colouring and not a single character done! She’s better now and I’m sure Josh will too.

Well, don’t worry moi, I’ve the same problem with my daughter when come to chinese homework, she will definitely give me ton of reasons. But others homework will be no problem for her, tidak payah kena suruh sendiri dia pigi buat. I’m sure Josh pun begitu tu… well, I think it’s normal bah tu… Jangan susah hati kio, take it easy.

Its hard at first.. just don’t force him.. furthermore its just preschool.. he will learn to do homework from time to time… once he enjoyed it.. i’m assure you he will love doing it.
I am sharing my experience and tips doing homework with Sean… and i don’t say that i am free from problems.. but he show progress :
1. Let him sit on his own chair and table like in his school… add few things on the table that excited him.
2. Timing… Observe when his mood ok… let say after dinner at 8.30 pm.. time to off the tv and do your homework… (mmm my problem savo sya.. suka watch tv.. no choice lah..he also sit together with Sean).
After a while… ada progress.. but we have to continue lah like that.. mmm tell me josh progress kio. Hugs to josh from ina ley
